This is why you don’t drink and drive, you end up doing stupid crap like this.
A drunk guy took a corner stop light too fast and rolled over into a Popeye’s parking lot in the next fire district over.
Downtown Disaster by BryanGaddis
So today after I backed down my driveway coming back home from a vehicle accident call I had a woman in her mid thirties or so walk down my driveway and started giving me lip about how I speed down the road, and the flashing bright lights at night.
Now to quickly clear some things up before we get back to the story I only use my dash master during the night and only en route to the station for a call because I live 10 miles out from it in a rural area and sometimes I need to move traffic and for peoples safety when they are walking down the road at dusk/dark. My neighborhood is a 25 MPH road, about half a mile long, I live at the end. The max speed I go leaving the neighborhood is 30-35 MPH depending on the call.
I proceeded to explain to the woman about how I am a volunteer firefighter and I only go 5-10 miles over the speed limit when there is no road obstructions or dangers (such as people walking down the road) and how I use the light only when it’s getting dark or dark out (including when its snowing out or thunder storming) but yet she still was was telling me not to with an attitude for at least five minutes. I then got fed up with her yelling (I asked her to leave once already) and threatened to call the troopers out here to handle it, she dared me - I did.
A trooper showed up ten minutes later or so, he arrived after she finally decided to walk home. I explained to him everything she said to me and what I had said back to her. So he understood and went down to her house and had a talk with her. The trooper came back to my house and just told me to try and slow down if I can and he also told me I was within the law to use the lights and left, but not to necessarily speed, even if it is a few miles over the limit and just really relaxed by it.
Two hours later I was out with my dog in my yard and she was walking down the road and came up to me and apologized for earlier and thanked me for what I do.
I find it pretty funny how people can change so fast and how fast they can be to judge. In return of respect I won’t use the dash or deck light until I get out of my neighborhood on onto the real road and slow it down a bit.
Coast guard motto
Because everyone should be a trained firefighter…even if you can’t hold the hose.

Children should police as a safe place when there IS trouble, not a punishment when they’re IN trouble.
